The Ohio RESA Team is happy to announce the launch of the 2016-17 RESA Instrument and Participant Guide, which can now be downloaded from the Ohio RESA Website. Also, in response to feedback from Ohio teachers and administrators, we have made some exciting enhancements for next year:
- Teachers can now submit evidence from any year of practice from their experience in the Resident Educator Program;
- We have reordered the task deadlines to give candidates more time to complete the Formative and Summative Assessment task;
- We have released the Assessor Scoring Notes, so every candidate can see what evidence the Ohio assessors look for when scoring your submissions;
- We have moved up the release of the 2016-2017 Score Reports to June 1st.
Please read on for more information on these new materials, resources, and enhancements.
2016-2017 RESA Instrument and Participant Guide
- RESA Instrument:This document contains the essential information for each of the four performance tasks in the 2016-2017 RESA, including the submission forms and scoring rubrics.
Updates from 2015-2016:
- The RESA task form questions, evidence requirements, and rubrics have not changed since 2015-2016.
- Candidates may now submit instructional evidence for all four tasks from any year during their experience in the Resident Educator Program, not just from the year in which they are taking the RESA. This change will allow candidates to begin collecting instructional evidence from their best practice in the first or second years of the Resident Educator Program if they so choose.
- RESA Participant Guide: This document includes additional guidance for candidates taking the 2016-2017 RESA, including information on:
- Getting started and registering for the RESA
- Special circumstances task modification process and accommodations for RESA candidates with disabilities
- The process for candidates retaking the RESA
- Using the online submission system
- Recommendations for task and evidence selection
- Uploading, segmenting and submitting video, audio, and PDF evidence
- RESA instructional evidence
- Disqualified submissions
- How the RESA is scored
- Guidelines for program coordinators and facilitators as they support RESA candidates
- Glossary of key terms used in the RESA
New Resource: The Assessor Scoring Notes
RESA Candidates may now access and download the Assessor Scoring Notes for each of the performance tasks. These notes were referenced in the “Understanding your RESA Score Report Webinar” on July 20th and provide insights into how the scoring rubrics are interpreted by RESA Assessors as they review candidate submissions. The Assesor Scoring Notes and a recording of the “Understanding your RESA Score Report” webinar are now available on the resources page of the Ohio RESA Website here.
Submission Deadlines
Task deadlines have been reordered based on feedback from Ohio educators. The new deadlines will allow first-time candidates more time to complete the Formative and Summative Assessment Task.
- For first-time candidates:
- The First Lesson Cycle Task and the Communication and Professional Growth Task are due by December 15, 2016.
- The Second Lesson Cycle Task and the Formative and Summative Assessment Task are due by February 15, 2017.
- For candidates retaking the RESA, all tasks are due by February 15, 2017.
2016-2017 RESA candidates, who are registered in CORE, will be able to access the RESA submission system starting September 15, 2016. Now that the RESA Instrument has been published, we encourage eligible resident educators to begin reviewing task requirements, collecting evidence, and drafting responses offline!
2016-2017 Score Reports
We are pleased to announce that all 2016-2017 RESA Score Reports will be released on June 1, 2017.
CORE Registration
The Ohio Department of Education’s CORE registration system will open August 8, 2016. All Resident Educators eligible to take the RESA this year, in addition to 2015-2016 candidates who are eligible to re-take one or more RESA tasks this year, must be registered in CORE by their Program Coordinator by November 15, 2016.
On September 15th, Educopia will begin to send RESA submission system activation links to candidates who are registered in CORE. These activation links will be sent to candidates who are registered in CORE on a weekly basis through the CORE registration deadline. The sooner program coordinators register their RESA candidates in CORE, the more time candidates will have to work on their tasks using the submission software.
